The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, announced on Friday that Iran would restore the right to vote, after paying part of its dues to the Assembly.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has paid the amount required to reduce its arrears below the amount specified in Article 19 of the Charter,” Bozkir said, opening the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly.
This article states that any member of the United Nations who is in arrears in the payment of its contributions shall be deprived of the right to vote in the General Assembly, “if the amount of its arrears equals or exceeds the amount of the contributions due from it for the preceding two full years.”

According to the text of the letter of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in order to restore the right to vote, Iran needed to contribute 16,251,298 dollars to the budget of the organization.
The same article also indicates that the General Assembly of the United Nations may allow any member state to vote, if it recognizes that the delay in payment was due to circumstances outside the control of the state. Ended 29/A87
