SRSG Mladenov welcomes completion of Iraqi Government formation process

Baghdad (AIN) – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov welcomes the agreement reached today to fill and approve the remaining vacant posts of Interior, Defence, Tourism, Immigration, and Women’s affairs ministers, as well as the posts of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State, Culture and Finance, and the taking oath of the Kurdistan Alliance ministers.
A statement by the United Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) received by AIN quoted Mladenov, as saying “This is another important step towards bringing the country together”, acknowledging that “I encourage the government to swiftly move forward on addressing the security, economic, social and political challenges that Iraq faces”, he added, underlining that “as a matter of priority the government should present a budget proposal that addresses the concerns of all Iraqis, including those of the Kurdistan Region”.
Mr. Mladenov further stated that “the Government and the people of Iraq today enjoy the support of the international community in their fight against ISIL”, and reaffirmed that “the United Nations will continue to support Iraq in building a democratic and inclusive state in which the rights of all Iraqis are respected”. /End/
