World Bank Representative in Iraq: There is a great need to use and strengthen the financial resources of the Customs

The World Bank’s Special Representative for Iraq, Yara Salem, said Sunday that there is a great need for reforms to link border crossings and use and strengthen financial resources.

“There are many reforms that must be made financially and electronically in order to link the border crossings and the Ministry of Basic for the unification and simplification of procedures,” Salim told Al-Ghad Press. “There is a great need to use and strengthen the coming financial resources from customs.”

She pointed out that “the government is doing many efforts and there are meetings by the Prime Minister with several public and private sector institutions to improve standards to standardize customs procedures through border crossings and encourage the use of technology in order to ensure transparency and credibility.”

Salem stressed the need to “provide information and contact with all employees and businessmen so as to be clear about customs fees and how to impose them and what privileges and benefits obtained by businessmen in the case of compliance with instructions,” saying that “there is a great need to strengthen financial resources, especially in the field of reconstruction because the budget Investment is limited and the strengthening of financial resources and customs is a key source of reliance. ”
