PM confirms Iraq’s aspiration for broader economic cooperation with Saudi Arabia

Sudanese Prime Minister Mohamed Shaia confirmed on Sunday that Iraq looks forward to broader economic cooperation with the Saudi side.

The Prime Minister’s Media Office said in a statement, seen by “Economy News”, that “the Sudanese met, on Sunday evening, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.”

The statement added that “during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries, the importance of consolidating them were discussed, and the files of joint cooperation and its growth were reviewed within the work of the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council, which resulted in several understandings in different fields.”

According to the statement, Al-Sudani pointed out that “Iraq aspires to broader economic cooperation with the Kingdom, which contributes to promoting growth and offers new opportunities in various economic fields, reflecting the interests of the two brotherly countries and the prosperity of their peoples.”

For his part, the Saudi Crown Prince welcomed “the visit of the Prime Minister, and expressed his thanks for meeting the invitation and participating in the World Economic Forum,” stressing Saudi Arabia’s keenness to achieve the best relations with Iraq, and raise the level of mutual cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

On the Gaza war, the statement continued, “The meeting touched on the situation in Gaza, and the killing and starvation witnessed by the Palestinian people at the hands of the occupation forces, and stressed the need to exert great efforts to stop the war, which reflected its effects on regional and international stability.”

It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani arrived, on Sunday morning, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to participate in the World Economic Forum, at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
