In his bag are many files. Al-Sudani on his first visit to build new interests with Washington

Shafaq News / Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani is scheduled to visit Washington to meet with US President Joe Biden on April 15, to draw up a new bilateral relationship after the exit of US forces from the country, and is his first visit since taking office in October 2022.

“On April 15, President Joe Biden will welcome Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani to the White House to coordinate on common priorities and strengthen the strong bilateral partnership between the United States and Iraq,” the White House said in a statement to Shafaq News.

“The leaders will reaffirm their commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement, and will deepen their shared vision of a secure, sovereign, prosperous and fully integrated Iraq in the wider region,” he said.

He pointed out that “President Biden and the Sudanese Prime Minister will consult on a range of issues during the visit, including the joint commitment to the permanent defeat of ISIS and the development of the military mission after nearly a decade of the formation of the successful global coalition to defeat ISIS.

“They will also discuss ongoing Iraqi financial reforms to promote economic development and progress towards Iraq’s energy independence and modernization,” he concluded.

Agreements to compensate for withdrawal

In this context, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Amer Al-Fayez, stressed that “the visit is important to draw the map of the bilateral relationship between Iraq and the United States, especially as it comes in the atmosphere of Iraq’s demand for the exit of foreign forces.”

Al-Fayez adds to Shafaq News that “America has common interests with Iraq, and for the purpose of taking care of its interests will go to conclude bilateral agreements, as the United States wants to maintain its interests after the exit of its forces from Iraq, and through the bilateral understandings and treaties it will make with the Sudanese, this matter can be maintained, which will help to remove foreign forces from Iraq.”

He continues, “The visit may be addressed to the Gaza issue, but it will not be the main goal, but the main goal is to improve the bilateral relationship and draw a road map between Iraq and the United States, because when Iraq decided to take out foreign forces, it it stressed that it will compensate for establishing bilateral relations between it and the countries of the international coalition in the security, political and economic fields.”

The Sudanese visit to Washington carries several files

For his part, the Director of Al-Rafd Center for Media and Strategic Studies, Dr. Abbas Al-Jubouri said that “the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to the United States of America carries several dimensions, as it is the first visit made by the Sudanese since he took office, and will carry a number of important and difficult files.”

Al-Jubouri explained to Shafaq News that “the first of these files is the file of the American presence inside Iraq and the date of withdrawal is determined by what the committee formed about a month ago was drawn up to him, and the Iraqi amounts deposited with the US Federal Bank will be discussed, as well as bilateral relations and economic and trade exchange will be discussed.”

He added, “There will also be a session of talks and the signing of a number of protocols between the Iraqi and American governments regarding oil extraction and investment, as well as with regard to important, vital and strategic projects.”

Dealing with stress

In turn, the Kurdish politician and former deputy in the Kurdistan Parliament, Abdul Salam Barwari, stressed that “the visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister to the United States under the current circumstances is of great importance for understanding on how to deal with pressures to get the US forces out on the one hand, and Iranian pressures on the other hand, with an American desire to contribute to the Iraqi economy.”

“The visit would have a good payoff in theory, but in practice, the prime minister – and since three heads of government – does not represent a large bloc within parliament, and has no weight among the parties that mandated him to form a government,” Barwari continued during his speech to the agency.

He shows that “those parties will ask him for positions that are consistent with their loyalties and starting points, so the Prime Minister does not reare for if he cannot achieve good results for Iraq, but in any case, it is an important visit and a good signal from America that the Iraqi government is friendly and ally.”

He pointed out that “the visit will be confirmed – as usual – the continuation of dialogues and meetings and the commitment of the United States to the security of Iraq and its assistance in the fight against terrorism, and the efforts of the United States to make the Iraqi government strong to help citizens and achieve their aspirations, as well as the presence of US forces and the need to continue dialogue, the suffering of the Iraqi dinar, the measures of the United States and the sanctions against some banks.”

Iraq.. Expectations of a higher dollar

{Economic:Euphrates News} The economist, Salah Nouri, expected the dollar exchange rate to rise in the country in the coming days.

“It is possible that the dollar exchange rate will rise in the coming days due to the increased import of goods,” Nouri said {Elphrate News}.
He attributed the reason for this to “covering the requests of citizens on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.”
As is customary in most Arab and Islamic countries, markets before the holidays are witnessing a trade movement that is usually more active, which applies to Iraq, which receives Eid in an economic situation that cannot be described as stable.
Iraqis usually accept to buy food to make Eid sweets inside their homes, known locally as “Klija”, in addition to buying meat and chicken in preparation for invitations and banquets during Eid, as well as buying clothes, but the high price rise prompted some Iraqis to rethink again.
The two main Al-Kifah and Al-Harithi exchanges in Baghdad recorded, when closing, today, Saturday, 148,700 Iraqi dinars for 100 dollars, while this morning it recorded 149,200 Iraqi dinars for 100 US dollars.
While the price of the dollar in banking shops in the local markets in Baghdad was 149,750 dinars for 100 dollars, while the purchase reached 147,750 dinars for 100 dollars.
