The United States has renewed a 120-day sanctions waiver allowing Iraq to pay Iran for electricity, US officials said.

They added that Iran will only be able to use this money for trade related to humanitarian work.Related news

A US official told reporters, on condition of anonymity, “Today… we are renewing an exemption for Iraq (from Iran’s sanctions ) regarding electricity… This is the 21st electricity-related exemption since 2018. The renewal will be for another 120 days. This measure will allow Iraq Using his own money to pay for Iranian electricity imports through Iranian accounts restricted in Iraq.”
