Al-Sudani calls on the Arab League to build an economic bloc and hold a 2025 summit in Baghdad

{Political: Euphrates News} Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani called for the next Arab summit to be held in 2025 in the capital Baghdad.

Al-Sudani said in the highlights of his speech at the 32nd Arab Summit held in the Saudi city of Jeddah: “I welcome the return of brotherly Syria to its natural place, a step that we emphasized and supported from the beginning because we believe in its importance on the path to restoring stability in the region.”

“We stress the importance of joint Arab action in order to contain differences and it is our duty not to let brotherly Sudan slip into the furnace of defection and internal rivalry, and we welcome initiatives calling for an end to the fighting there,” he added.

“We hope that efforts to stabilize brotherly Libya will succeed, and we rejoice well for the continuation of attempts to achieve peace in brotherly Yemen, and renew our stand with our brothers in Lebanon in order to overcome their political and economic conditions,” he continued.

Al-Sudani stressed “Iraq’s firm and principled position on the Palestinian right to land and sovereignty and the establishment of a state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”

He also welcomed “the agreement between Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, a practical step supported by Iraq and worked to achieve it by investing the good intentions of the two neighboring countries, in the stability and prosperity of the region.”

He stressed that “the Arabs around each other is not isolation, but rather increases our openness to our neighbors as Arabs combined and as individual Arab countries,” calling on “the Arab League to develop its curricula towards building an economic bloc, to strengthen our economies and invest our various resources in the best way.”

He pointed out that “many countries have been able to build successful economic blocs, and they do not have common elements among their members, so we must investigate all angles of economic interdependence and integration between our countries.”

The Prime Minister pointed out that “Iraq will host several conferences to lay the foundation for such cooperation, including the conference (Baghdad 2023), for economic integration and regional stability,” noting that “the capital Baghdad is preparing these days to host the Development Road Conference, that promising project that will strengthen the inclusive ties and interests of our peoples.”

He added that “the file of climate change, and water scarcity, requires us to work jointly in light of international laws and norms to find radical solutions that mitigate their negative effects.”

He stressed that “the scourge of drugs, and its equivalent attempts for cultural and value influence, require us to take a decisive position that starts from solidarity and cooperation to combat it,” noting that “the Iraqis confronted the terrorist attack that was targeting not only Iraq, but the region and the world, and made sacrifices, and the victory we achieved pushes us forward to build our country.”

Al-Sudani concluded his speech “by calling for the convening of the Arab Summit 2025 in Baghdad, which looks forward to embracing the Arab brothers in Mesopotamia.”
