Shafaq News/ The Ministry of Interior in Kurdistan Region announced the arrest of writer Nayef Kurdistani after he published a tweet about the religious authority that prompted protesters to storm the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Baghdad and set it on fire.

The Ministry of the Interior said in a statement, “After a person named Nayef Kurdistani published a tweet on social media in which he was exposed to the site of the holy reference, the security forces in the Kurdistan Region, on a direct order from the Minister of Interior, arrested the aforementioned and handed him over to the judicial authorities for the purpose of taking legal measures against him.” .

He added, “Freedom of expression does not mean daring to offend religious and national symbols, and that insulting them, especially the position of reference, is not acceptable and cannot be tolerated. We affirm that the aforementioned represents only himself, and the position of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Kurdistan people is clear and frank in respect and glorification of the role of the rational reference in Iraq and the Islamic world, and it will remain like that”.

Earlier in the day, the Kurdistan Democratic Party strongly condemned a tweet by a Kurdish writer, which it considered a condemnation of religious references.

And the party said in a statement, “It is no secret to anyone that the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party has the utmost respect and appreciation for all rational religious references and honorable clerics and constantly advises its members and cadres to respect all Islamic references and other religions, in line with the approach of the immortal Barzani, so we condemn and condemn And strongly, the tweet of the so-called Dr. Nayef of Kurdistan, in which he insulted the rational references.

He added, “We also announce to everyone that the aforementioned person has no relationship or affiliation with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, neither closely nor from afar, and that his tweet represents his personal opinion and has nothing to do with our party, which truly believes in peaceful coexistence and respect for religious and sectarian beliefs.”
