AMMONNEWS – Kuwait and Iraq will hold a round of legal and technical talks on Sunday as part of their efforts to end a maritime border dispute if resolved that will stimulate economic development between the two countries, Kuwait and Iraq will be held on Saturday.
The land border between the two countries was demarcated by the United Nations in 1993 after Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait, but the demarcation did not include the length of their maritime border, leaving it to the two countries to find a solution.
The two sides will hold talks on Sunday, the foreign minister said, expressing hope for progress.
“It is a top priority for my government as we are working with Iraq to finalize the demarcation of those maritime boundaries,” the minister added in an interview at the Munich Security Conference. Their legal and technical teams will meet on Sunday to seek an agreement, he said.

An agreement would open the door to closer cooperation that includes port construction, border oilfield management, and the overall facilitation of trade and transport between the two countries and other areas.
