A private source reveals to the obelisk McGurk’s warning to the Kurdish parties: you will lose everything

Baghdad/Obelisk: Private Kurdish sources revealed to Al-Masala what the US President’s Deputy Envoy to the Global Coalition against the Terrorist Enterprise, Brett McGurk, said when he visited the Kurdistan region.

The sources told Al-Maslah that McGurk visited the two parties (the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) and told the leaders that they will lose everything from oil, disputed areas and even the Kurdish entity, if the two parties do not start real reform, unify the Peshmerga forces and respect rights and freedoms.

He also told the two main parties that the federal government would not send you the money, she said, adding that there was a U.S. will to limit the role of the two Kurdish parties.

After a 3-month rupture between the Kurdish parties, a delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) visited the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in the city of Sulaymaniyah, where they were received by the leaders of the Union and Qubad Talabani.

The initial agreement between them is that the influence of the Democratic Party will be in all the provinces of the region, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah, as well as the agreement of the Kurds before the decisions of the Federal Court.

US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski said in a tweet: “We welcome the steps taken by our partners in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to reform their internal relations that will benefit their people, adding that the united home always leads to prosperity.

The KDP is the largest Kurdish party, and holds the positions of presidency of the Kurdistan Region, the presidency of the government in the region and most ministries in Kurdistan, after winning 55 seats in the elections of the Kurdistan Parliament last session.

The PUK is the second largest Kurdish party and recently held the presidency.

But the Kurdish conflict is not new, but goes back to a long history that extends back to the nineties.

The differences have reached such an extent that the PUK earlier this year threatened to secede Sulaymaniyah and Halabja from the Kurdistan Region, but the PKK considered this blackmail.

The main disagreements revolve around the sharing and distribution of power and financial revenues among the region’s ruling parties.
