The presidency of the region said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that “during the meeting, which was attended by the US President’s envoy for global infrastructure Amos Hochstein and the US ambassador to Iraq Elena Romanowski, they discussed the latest developments in Iraq and relations between the United States, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, in addition to discussing relations between Erbil and Baghdad and ways to solve problems, in addition to the internal situation in the Kurdistan Region and the process of unifying the Peshmerga forces.”
The statement added that “McGurk reiterated the continued support of the United States for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and his country’s desire to expand relations with Baghdad and Erbil and expand joint cooperation in all fields, especially in the field of energy security and protection.”
For his part, Nechirvan Barzani gave a detailed explanation of the situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and attempts to resolve issues, and stressed that with the formation of the new Iraqi federal government, an opportunity emerged to resolve issues on the basis of the constitution and federalism, and the Kurdistan Region is ready for all kinds of cooperation in this regard.
The statement concluded that “the importance of joint action to maintain stability and the latest developments in the region in general and other issues of common interest were other axes during the meeting, which was attended by a number of officials and advisers from both sides.”
