Shafaq News / The Minister of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region, Awat Sheikh Janab, described on Wednesday the talks held by the delegation of the Kurdistan Regional Government negotiating in Baghdad to resolve differences and outstanding issues positively.
Sheikh Janab said in a statement to the official website of the Kurdistan Regional Government today that the meetings of the delegation of the Kurdistan government in Baghdad included discussing oil issues, the budget of 2023, and the region’s share of them, noting that the Federal Ministry of Finance did not send the Kurdistan Region throughout 2022 only two months, referring to the region’s share of the budget.
Sheikh Janab, who is a member of the delegation, the government of the negotiating region, added that “part of our visit was devoted to defending the region’s share in the budget, as well as the problems that existed between Erbil and Baghdad, in addition to the problems of staffing, and the issue of spending and income.”
During the visit of the KRG delegation to Baghdad, another topic was discussed is oil, which has become a pending issue between Erbil and Baghdad.
Awat Sheikh Janab noted that during the meetings there were discussions on oil, we made great strides and to some extent there was an understanding between the two sides.
“We agreed to find solutions to these issues within the framework of the constitution, political agreements and the ministerial program of the new Iraqi government,” he added.
Sheikh Janab also pointed out that “as Minister of Finance and Economy, we have officially asked the Iraqi Ministry of Finance to spend the share of the Kurdistan Region of the budget.”
“In our meeting with the Iraqi Minister of Finance and the Economic Committee, we talked about this and promised to propose to the Council of Ministers. After the efforts of the delegation, the Council of Ministers decided to send the funds of the region for two months to the Kurdistan Region.”
“This time compared to previous times, we are very optimistic and the results of the discussions will be admired by citizens,” the Kurdistan minister said, stressing that the delegation of the Kurdistan government tried hard to ensure the budget and share of Kurdistan’s employees in a way that does not fall into the political conflicts directed against the Kurdistan region.
