The Parliamentary Finance Committee announced, on Wednesday, the resumption of its work to follow up the role of the Ministry of Finance in preparing the 2023 budget and securing the salaries of employees.

According to a statement received by Mawazine News, the Parliamentary Finance Committee was held today, Wednesday, headed by the head of the age, MP Mahasin Hamdoun, and in the presence of the members of the committee, and many issues on the agenda were discussed.
The committee indicated the importance of resuming its work in the performance of its oversight duties under the Iraqi Parliament Law No. 13 of 2018 because the parliament suspended sessions and not suspended performance and duties, in addition to following up on all ministries and governorates for which funds have been allocated in the law of emergency support for food security and development and monitoring the implementation of this and the mechanism of work Applying the instructions of the Ministry of Finance regarding this law.
It also stressed the follow-up to the role of the Ministry of Finance in preparing the next federal budget and securing the salaries of employees for the year 2023.
The Parliamentary Finance Committee affirmed its keenness on the necessity of entrusting the tasks of the vacant ministries, especially the “Ministry of Finance” after the recent resignation of its minister, to those with experience and competence, and in a manner that does not conflict with the mechanism of applying the exchange and financial spending doors to the ministries. The sources added; “Parties in the political process communicated to the coordination framework a verbal message by Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein, to the effect that the Kurds and Sunnis have pledged their attendance at meetings or national dialogue sessions in the presence of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, and this in itself inevitably affects the progress of the political process.”

Shafaq News/ Parliament Rapporteur Gharib Askar confirmed on Thursday that there is no agreement or a real date for holding a session of Parliament.

Askar told Shafaq News Agency, “The coordination framework, political blocs and the Iraqi street are all waiting for a date to hold a session of the House of Representatives,” noting that “Parliament has been inoperative for more than a month, and we need to legislate many laws, monitor the work of the caretaker government and form the new government.” 

He added that “the Presidency of the House of Representatives discussed more than once to hold a session of the House of Representatives, but until this moment there is no agreement or setting a real date for holding the session.” 

And Askar said, “As a member of the coordination framework, I ask Mr. Muqtada al-Sadr to give an order to the protesters to withdraw from the parliament building for the purpose of expediting the holding of the session and forming the new government,” stressing that “the parliament building is the best place to hold the session.”

Members of the coordination framework are deliberating that there is an agreement with Muhammad al-Halbousi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to hold a session to elect the president of the republic and assign the framework candidate to form a government.
