Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, asked the judicial authorities to work on dissolving the Iraqi parliament within a maximum period of next week, urging at the same time the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, to set a date for early legislative elections in the country.

Al-Sadr said in a tweet seen by Shafak News Agency, “Someone may say: The dissolution of Parliament needs to hold a parliament session to dissolve itself. No, there are blocs that adhere to quotas and continue to corruption and will not succumb to the people’s demand to dissolve Parliament, but I say: The dissolution of Parliament is not limited with that.”

He added, “From here, I address my words to the competent judicial authorities, especially the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, hoping that they correct the course, especially after the end of the brief constitutional deadlines and others for Parliament by choosing the President of the Republic and assigning a Prime Minister to form a government of stakes, as well as the national or independent majority and away from the old, grim faces that despair Including the people, and if they are not corrupt, they are either deficient or deficient. Shafaq News/ The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region announced, on Wednesday, the contents of the meeting of the Kurdish parties regarding the upcoming elections in the region.

The statement received by Shafaq News stated that “under the supervision of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Blaschaert, a meeting of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region was held today, Wednesday, with the Kurdish political parties to discuss the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan Region.”

The statement added, “President Nechirvan Barzani thanked Blackshart and the political parties for accepting the invitation of the Kurdistan Region Presidency, and expressed his hope that the political parties would reach an understanding on setting the date for the elections and solving the problems.”

Barzani stressed, “The importance of the elections for the Kurdistan Region, and said, “The delay in the elections harms the reputation and prestige of the Kurdistan Region.”

For her part, Plasschaert delivered a speech addressing the importance of the parties reaching an understanding on the issue of the elections and setting the date for holding them, and expressed the full support of the United Nations for the success of the process, and stressed the need to reach a result as soon as possible, because there is not much time available.

After the Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Mustafa Sayed Qadir, presented the report of the Kurdistan Region Presidency Committee in charge of following up the issue of the elections, the political parties put forward their views and views in this context, and thanked the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region for its efforts to bring the political parties together, and considered the continuation of meetings and talks a positive matter.

In conclusion, it was decided to hold the last meeting to resolve all issues related to the elections and solve the problems facing the process, at the beginning of next September, and that the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region and the political parties, with the assistance of a specialized team from UNAMI, continue their talks and preparations until that date.

And earlier today, Wednesday, the Kurdish parties agreed to maintain the election law, to include general voting day only for the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, without the special members of the Peshmerga forces and security forces.

According to the information reported by Shafak News Agency correspondent in Erbil, the meeting also resulted in the activation of the Independent High Commission for Elections and Referendum in the region. Another meeting is scheduled for the beginning of next September, according to our agency’s correspondent.

On February 24, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, signed an order setting the first of next October as the date for holding the elections for the sixth session of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Region.

However, the Independent High Electoral Commission in the Kurdistan Region saw today, Wednesday, that the holding of parliamentary elections in the region needs six months of preparation.

The electoral law, the commission, the voter lists, and the date of the elections are the most prominent points of contention between the Kurdish forces, which will be discussed in this meeting.

The last elections held in the region in 2018, resulted in the Kurdistan Democratic Party winning a comfortable majority, with 45 seats out of 111 seats, which is the total number of seats in the region’s parliament, while its traditional rival, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, won 21 seats, and the remaining seats were distributed among the Change Movement. One seat, 8 seats for the “New Generation” movement, and 7 seats for the Islamic Group. The Kurdistan Communist Party and other blocs won between one and five seats.

Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi considered dialogue the only way to overcome the current political crisis in the country.

This came in his speech during the ceremony of laying the foundation stone for the rehabilitation project of Mosul International Airport.

Al-Kazemi said in his speech, “We succeeded in crossing the economic challenge as well as the security challenge, and today the political blocs are required to assume their responsibilities by resolving the issue of the political blockage, for the sake of Iraq’s interest and its future.”

He added, “I wish everyone to work with all force to resolve the political impasse and resort to dialogue to resolve differences, and we have no choice but dialogue,” adding that “dialogue for a thousand years is better than the moment we collide with as Iraqis.”

With regard to Mosul Airport, Al-Kazemi said, “The Mosul International Airport project is a strategic and important project for our sons in the province, and we are laying the foundation stone today.”

He also stated that “Mosul International Airport will provide job opportunities, facilitate transportation, and facilitate the lives of citizens.”

Al-Kazemi described the “city of Mosul” as “a model of Iraqi coexistence and diversity, which we consider an element of strength,” saying, “a model of tolerance that proves that Iraq possesses a lot of human capabilities and competencies in this province, which is good with its people and history.”

He went on to say that “the city of Mosul has suffered a lot from the policies of confusion, terrorism and poor planning, and God willing, what happened in the past will not be repeated, neither in Mosul, nor in Nineveh, nor in the whole of Iraq.”

The head of the federal government also noted that “there are tremendous efforts being made daily for reconstruction, and I personally follow them, and follow the details of the challenges and overcoming them, in order to send a message that the Iraqis deserve life, and that they are able to turn challenges into opportunities for success.”

He added, “We must pay tribute to the other projects that the province is witnessing, and soon (..) we will come to inaugurate the project of reconstructing Al-Nuri Mosque, this important mosque that is on the conscience of the people of the province and all Iraqis.” International organizations, UNESCO, and international organizations, as well as the advisory office of the University of Mosul, and brother Rakan Al-Allaf have worked, and we hope that this project will be completed in the near future.

“Today, we all need integration and cooperation in order to mobilize energies and build an Iraq worthy of Iraqis, and these efforts will not be lost, and we will not allow the corrupt to exploit these projects to squander the people’s money,” he stressed.

Al-Kazemi stressed that “the result of everyone who tries to tamper with these projects for personal interests or for the sake of gangs and corrupt groups will be the same as the fate of the terrorists who tried to destroy this city.”

Government official: Iraq is not thinking of floating the currency at the moment

Shafaq News/ A government official confirmed, on Wednesday, that Iraq is not considering floating the currency currently, indicating that the flotation at the present time will threaten the collapse of the country’s economy.

The official said in an interview with Shafaq News Agency, “The rentier nature of the Iraqi economy makes it difficult to float the Iraqi currency, and therefore Iraq is not currently thinking of floating it.”

The official, who asked not to be named, added, “Access to hard currency in Iraq comes mostly from our oil exports, which is in the hands of the government, and that the local market is circulating for it and does not bring this currency, and therefore its flotation will threaten the Iraqi economy with collapse because it will increase demand for it in exchange for limited supply.”

He also indicated that “floating the currency without diversifying the economy will have negative repercussions on the purchasing power of the Iraqi consumer, especially the middle and poor groups,” adding that, “the float is on the table with the government in the long run because of its importance in stimulating the production process in the country.”

It is noteworthy that some officials talk from time to time on the necessity of floating the currency and liberalizing it to preserve the hard currency reserves with the Central Bank.
