Shafaq News/ The European Union expressed, on Sunday, its concern about the ongoing protests and the possible escalation in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
In a statement received by Shafak News Agency, the union called on all parties to “exercise restraint to prevent more violence,” calling on political forces to “resolve issues through constructive political dialogue within the constitutional framework.”
He stressed that “the right to peaceful protest is necessary for democracy, and laws and state institutions must be respected.”
It is noteworthy that the supporters of the Sadrist movement, led by the prominent Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, stormed for the second time and within 72 hours the fortified Green Zone and the Iraqi parliament building in protest against the nomination of the coordinating framework Muhammad Shia al-Sudani for the position of prime minister for the next federal government.
