Shafaq News/ The new commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission for advisory and training in Baghdad, General Giovanni Iannucci, confirmed on Wednesday that Iraq is a pivotal country in the region and the world.
This came during his visit to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, in his office in the capital, Baghdad, according to a statement from the latter’s office received by Shafak News Agency.
The statement indicated that “the meeting discussed the work of the NATO mission in Iraq, and ways to develop it and overcome any difficulties it may face.”
Al-Kazemi stressed “the importance of strengthening cooperation with NATO in the field of training the Iraqi security forces, developing their efficiency at the institutional level, and raising the performance skills of members of the security forces.”
For his part, the NATO Head of Mission indicated the importance of the relationship with Iraq; Being a “pivotal country in the region and the world,” and that “its stability will reflect positively on regional and international stability,” praising “the role played by the Iraqi government in this context,” according to the statement.
Iannucci indicated his mission’s readiness to work according to the priorities of the Iraqi government in the field of training and building security capabilities.
