The Congressional Foreign Relations Committee, in the presence of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, held the first meeting on the bill, which focuses specifically on the development and protection of American values, including democracy and the defense of freedom of expression and human rights.

The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations in the US Congress, Bob Menendez, declared: When we look at the world from Cuba to Mali, Iran, and certainly Russia, we find that the authoritarians have eliminated freedom of expression, arrest people, limit technology in order to control their people, and use gangs and special weapons to target innocents.

The estimated size of the proposed budget, according to the bill, is 60.4 billion dollars, distributed over the activities of the US State Department around the world, including Iraq.

The share allocated to Iraq is as follows: $47.5 million for demining programs, countering terrorism, preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction and similar programs, $2.5 million allocated to counter drugs, $1 million for international military training and education, $100 million in financial aid to the forces, and $1,024 million for diplomatic programs And 156 million dollars in aid and economic support.

Shafaq News/ The Head of the Legal Committee in the House of Representatives, MP Muhammad Anouz, announced today, Thursday, that work is currently underway to issue a parliamentary resolution obligating the government to submit the budget for the purpose of approval, noting that the constitution did not prevent the caretaker government from sending bills to Parliament.

In a statement received by Shafak News Agency, Anouz said, “The political blockage led to the delay in approving the budget and the disruption of bills, which cast a shadow on the country’s economic situation and the living reality of citizens.”

He added that “there are about 120 laws that have been transferred from the previous parliamentary session to this session, some of which affect the economic aspect.”

Mustafa Al-Kazemi’s government stumbled by sending the budget bill for 2022 before the Iraqi parliament in its previous session dissolved itself in preparation for the early elections that took place on October 10, 2021.

A number of specialists considered that the delay in approving the budget for the current year would negatively affect investment projects and delay ongoing projects, in addition to stopping the economic activities of the market in the country in general.

Nabil Al-Marsoumi told {Euphrates News}: “The process of deleting zeros from the dinar is a technical process that costs the state large sums of money as a result of destroying the current currency and issuing new ones.” 
He added that “the deletion works to reduce the cost of transactions only and does not affect the economic reality in anything because the purchasing power of the citizen will remain the same by deleting the zeros only, and does not raise the value of the dinar.” 
Al-Marsoumi stressed that the deletion of zeros “will have a very limited impact on prices.”

Shafaq News/ The Iraq Stock Exchange announced, on Thursday, the suspension of its activity for a period of five days.

The market said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “Based on the decision of the Council of Ministers to declare a five-day official holiday on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, the trading sessions will not be organized, starting from the first of May until the 5th of the same month.”

He added, “The activity will be practiced after the official holiday, and starting from Sunday, May 8, according to its official timings.”

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Stock Exchange organizes five trading sessions per week from Sunday to Thursday, and includes 103 Iraqi joint stock companies representing the sectors of banking, telecommunications, industry, agriculture, insurance, financial investment, tourism and hotels.

Yesterday, Wednesday, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers decided to suspend official working hours during the next week on the occasion of the Labor Day and Eid al-Fitr.
