US-British reassurance: A peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis still exists

Shafaq News/ Britain and America confirmed on Monday that a peaceful diplomatic solution still exists to end the tension between Russia and Ukraine, as an alternative to the military option.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s office said that the latter and US President Joe Biden consider that “the opportunity is still available for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” according to the Russian “TASS” news agency.

He added that “Johnson and Biden briefed each other on the substance of the talks they had with other world leaders. They agreed that the window for diplomacy was still open, and that Russia could back down from the threat to Ukraine.”

Johnson said earlier, “I will do everything in my power to assist the diplomatic process … I will speak very soon with several leaders, including Joe Biden.”

Johnson quoted Biden as saying that “there are indications that Russia is planning something that could happen within the next 48 hours,” and described the situation as “extremely dangerous.”

Shafaq News/ A source in Al-Sadr’s office said on Monday that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada Al-Sadr, held a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, his office in Al-Hanana in the city of Najaf.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, that the meeting is closed, and Walid Al-Karimawi, the special advisor to Al-Sadr, will participate.

Earlier today, a special source told Shafaq News Agency that Al-Kazemi will hold talks on several files with Al-Sadr during a lightning visit to Najaf Governorate.

It is reported that Al-Sadr received, on January 6, Al-Kazemi at his home in Al-Hanana, without issuing any clarification from the two sides about the meeting, but observers believe that Al-Kazemi is seeking new support to win a second term to head the Iraqi government.

During the past weeks, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, received at his home in Al-Hanana in Najaf, a number of high-ranking political figures, including the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, the last of which was the visit of Iranian General Ismail Qaani.

, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi affirmed, on Monday, the government’s keenness to activate the Iraqi-Chinese framework agreement, while Chinese Ambassador Zhang Tao indicated his country’s aspiration to develop relations between Baghdad and Beijing.

Al-Kazemi’s office said in a statement received by “Mawazine News”, that “Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi received, today, Monday, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Baghdad, Zhang Tao, on the occasion of the end of his work in Iraq.”

Al-Kazemi praised, according to the statement, “the level of bilateral relations between the two countries,” noting “Iraq’s aspiration to develop them, which are partnership relations that culminated in more strategic cooperation in various economic, trade, and cultural fields, as well as in the fields of energy, investment, and security.”
