The Kurdistan Democratic Party condemns the extension of the election appeals by Saleh and Zaidan

Shafaq News/ The Kurdistan Democratic Party considered on Thursday extending the period of appeals against the results of the early legislative elections in Iraq, which took place last October, with the aim of manipulating the results in favor of “certain parties” over other parties.

The party’s political office said in a statement today, “The early election process for the Iraqi parliament on the tenth of last October took place in a fair and democratic manner, until the period of appeals was extended by a political decision and illegally, and with the intervention of the President of the Republic and the head of the judiciary in order to Manipulating the results in favor of certain parties.

The statement stated that, “After the meeting of our party’s legal and technical committee with the Independent High Electoral Commission and the judiciary, it became clear that all the evidence we have proves that violations have occurred, so we in the Kurdistan Democratic Party reject these interventions, changes and violations, and defend the rights of candidates and voters.”

The statement stressed that it is necessary to restore their confiscated rights (voters and candidates). 

“We will continue our efforts to ensure justice and restore rights to their owners, and we will announce the next steps we will take,” the party said in its statement.

On Tuesday, the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s spokesman, Mahmoud Muhammad, said that two seats were illegally taken from the party.

Mahmoud said in a statement, “After announcing the final results of the Iraqi parliament elections by the Independent High Electoral Commission, it became clear to us that two seats were deprived of legal entitlements for two of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s candidates in the governorates of Erbil and Nineveh.”

He added, “We will announce the position of the Kurdistan Democratic Party regarding this illegal act after holding the meeting of the political bureau of the party.”

The Kurdistan Democratic Party had won 33 seats according to the preliminary results, before losing two seats after canceling the votes of election stations and recounting the manual for other stations.

According to the final results announced by the commission earlier on Tuesday, the Sadrist bloc topped the final election results by obtaining 73 seats, while the “Progress” coalition led by Muhammad al-Halbousi won 37 seats, and the State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki won 33 seats.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party came fourth with 31 seats, while the Al-Fateh Alliance led by the Secretary-General of Badr Organization Hadi Al-Amiri came fifth, with 17 seats, and the Kurdistan Alliance came sixth with 17 seats, with a difference in the number of votes between it and the Al-Fateh Alliance.

The “Azm” coalition won 14 seats, the Extension Alliance won 9 seats, and the New Generation Movement got 9 seats, while the “Canon Sunrise” got 5 seats, the National Contract got 4 seats, the state forces also 4, and the masses of our identity 3 seats, and the movement Three seats were also settled for Islah, the Iraq Turkmen Front one seat, while 16 political parties won one seat each, in addition to the independents winning 43 seats.
