Shafaq News/ The Kurdish leader, Massoud Barzani, and the joint head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, stressed, during a meeting in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, on Monday, the unity of the Kurdish national ranks and the unification of efforts to address problems and serve the people of Kurdistan.

A statement by Barzani’s office, received by Shafaq News Agency, stated that the Kurdish leader, Massoud Barzani, who is also the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, received Bafel Jalal Talabani in his office in the Salah al-Din resort in Erbil. 

The statement indicated that the meeting witnessed an assessment of the general situation and current issues, and emphasized the unity of the Kurdish national ranks and the unification of efforts to address problems and serve the people of Kurdistan.

The statement added that in another part of the meeting, positions were taken regarding the new phase in Iraq and after the elections, and the meeting saw the importance of the unified Kurdish discourse in Baghdad.

The meeting also confirmed the desire of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party for unity and an emphasis on harmony within the Kurdish house, according to the same statement.

Emphasis was also placed on a unified and national project based on the national interest for all political issues, the formulation of a joint program between the two sides, and the consolidation of the principle of partnership in managing governance, implementing citizens’ demands and achieving stability, according to the statement.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party won the highest seats in the recent early Iraqi parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, and came fourth in Iraq with 33 seats, according to preliminary results.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan came second in the region, with 18 seats.

This meeting comes before the announcement of the final results and the start of serious negotiations between the winning blocs to form the next Iraqi government.
