Shafaq News/ The Independent High Electoral Commission reported on Wednesday that the manual counting of the contested stations’ votes in Kirkuk governorate had ended, without changing the results.

The media official of the UNHCR office in Kirkuk, Ali Abbas, told Shafaq News Agency, “The commission in Kirkuk has completed the manual counting and sorting of 87 stations in which appeals were submitted.”

He added that the results of manual counting and sorting are 100 percent identical with the electronic results, and thus the results of Kirkuk, especially the second district, in which Arshad Al-Salihi, Kilan Qader, Najwa Hamid and Sawsan Jadoua won, remain the same.

He pointed out that “new appeals to nine stations may change the outcome.”

This confirmation comes amid a struggle between Sawsan Abdel Wahed of the Turkmen Front, who defeated Gharib Askar, the conquest candidate, by only two votes.

Al-Kazemi chairs a meeting of the National Water Committee and issues 6 decisions

Shafaq News/ Today, Wednesday, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi chaired the meeting of the Supreme National Water Committee, in the presence of a number of ministers and relevant officials.

During the meeting, according to a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “the situation of water throughout Iraq, the state of storage in dams, as well as the expected uses through the approved agricultural plan, was discussed. The meeting also witnessed a discussion of the international water file with the riparian countries with Iraq in the rivers.”

The meeting considered the issues on its agenda and issued the following decisions:

First / Approval of the continued participation of representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources in the meetings of the Blue Peace Initiative, whether at the level of the Higher Advisory Committee or sub-committees; To gain more understanding about the objectives of the initiative, the parties involved in it, and the expected results, and then define Iraq’s official position on joining the initiative or withdrawing from it.

Second / Approval of the convening of the second Baghdad International Water Conference for the period from 5 to 6 March 2022, to be annually, with the balance of allocations within the plan of the Ministry of Water Resources for each year, and the formation of a permanent secretariat for the conference in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Third / Emphasis on the governors in all governorates about commitment to the approved agricultural plan, and assigning the agricultural committees in the governorates to follow up on that.

Fourth / The Ministry of Electricity, in coordination and cooperation with the directorates of water resources in all governorates, to carry out the programmed cuts according to the Marshna schedule prepared for the purpose of controlling the approved consumption and expenditures.

Fifth / The Municipality of Baghdad and the local governments in the governorates to extend the water intake pipes on the main rivers, and to take urgent measures to connect the projects of liquefaction stations installed bypassing the rivers and canals subject to irrigation with the central stations.

Sixth: The Ministry of Oil continues to supply fuel to the water resources departments on a deferred payment system.

The Iraqi and Iranian central banks discuss in Baghdad Tehran’s financial dues

 Shafaq News/ The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq and his Iranian counterpart discussed, during a meeting held today in Baghdad, ways to address the financial dues of the Iranian side.   

The media of the Central Bank of Iraq said in a statement, received by Shafak News Agency, that Governor Mustafa Ghaleb Mukhif received, today, his Iranian counterpart Ali Saleh Abadi, who is currently visiting Iraq accompanied by a banking and economic delegation.

The statement indicated that the meeting, which was attended by the Director General of the Trade Bank of Iraq from the Iraqi side, dealt with ways of cooperation in the banking sector between the two parties and the possibility of processing the financial dues of the Iranian side in accordance with the specific contexts of the agreement. 

Earlier, the Iranian parliament announced that the Iraqi debt amounted to 7 billion dollars, stressing the need to pay it.

According to the deputy head of the Economic Committee in the Iranian parliament, Kazem Mousavi, the Iraqi debts owed to his country amounted to about 7 billion dollars, stressing that Iraq is a friendly country, but Tehran should not be treated like this.

He added that the high inflation and living difficulties in Iran were caused by the debts of Baghdad, Beijing and Moscow that it did not pay to Iran.

He said, “If Iraq, China, Russia and non-oil exporting countries had returned $20 billion in currencies to the country, our people would not have faced problems.”

In response to a question whether the date for the release of Iranian funds in Iraq had been set, Mousavi said: “The release date has not been set, but they have to return it in the end.”
