An American official: We look with great interest to our relations with the Kurdistan Region

Shafaq News/ The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran, Jennifer Gavito, confirmed on Thursday that her country views with great interest its relations with the Kurdistan Region.

This came during her reception and the accompanying delegation by the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, in Erbil.

The regional government said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that “the situation in Iraq and relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States took place in the meeting, which was attended by the US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, Robert Palladino.”

The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State pointed to “the important and special status of the Kurdistan Region, as the United States views its relations with the region with great interest, and that her visit comes to reaffirm America’s support for the Kurdistan Region.”

For his part, the Prime Minister thanked the United States for its continuous support for the region, and presented an overview of the reforms undertaken by the Kurdistan Regional Government to diversify sources of income and establish a strong economic infrastructure.

The two sides also dealt with the upcoming elections for the Iraqi parliament and the strategic dialogue between Iraq and America, as well as ways to confront terrorist threats.
