Al-Halbousi affirms Iraq’s keenness to consolidate its relations with the European Union and expand horizons of cooperation

Today, Monday, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi stressed the importance of the European Union’s support for Iraq in the file of returning the displaced and achieving stability for the returnees to their homes.
The Media Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated, in a statement received by Mawazine News, that “House of Representatives Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi received today, Monday, the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy in the European Union and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell and his accompanying delegation.”
The statement added, “The meeting discussed joint relations and cooperation between Iraq and the European Union, in addition to the file of the displaced and the upcoming early parliamentary elections.”
Al-Halbousi stressed, during the meeting, “Iraq’s keenness to consolidate its relations with the European Union, and expand horizons of cooperation in various fields,” praising the European Union’s efforts to support Iraq during its war against the terrorist gangs of ISIS.
He pointed to the importance of supporting Iraq with the file of returning the displaced and achieving stability for the returnees to their homes, through reconstruction and provision of services to the liberated areas.
With regard to the file of the upcoming early parliamentary elections, the Speaker of Parliament stressed “the importance of the European Union’s role in monitoring the Iraqi elections, to ensure their integrity, and create Citizens have confidence in choosing their representatives who express their aspirations, and to motivate them for broad participation.”
For his part, Borrell explained the European Union’s support for Iraq in all fields, especially in the file of returning displaced persons, stressing their support for the upcoming elections by sending observer teams from the European Commission and Parliament from order to ensure the safety of its procedure.” Ended 29/A87
