Shafaq News/ A deputy from the Sairoon Alliance, representing the Sadrist movement, said on Sunday that the upcoming parliamentary elections “will not produce convincing and reassuring results” for the Iraqi people for multiple reasons and interventions, while indicating that the political process is still traditional and under the threat of “constitutional violations”.
MP Riyadh Al-Masoudi told Shafaq News Agency, “The aim of holding the early elections was to produce fair results and reassuring outcomes for the Iraqi people, and to bridge the rift between the people and the political process,” noting that “the selection of the June 6 date was unsuccessful and unconstitutional, in addition to the tenth date. From November it was also outside the constitutional scope adopted in the country.
The representative of the Sadrist movement, whose leader Muqtada al-Sadr recently announced his withdrawal from the upcoming elections, considered that “the November elections will not take place under normal conditions, which is the reason for the withdrawal of influential political forces from the elections.”
Al-Masoudi warned of the “constitutional mechanisms for holding elections within Article 56 that determines the age of the House of Representatives and Article 64 on dissolving the House of Representatives itself at the request of two-thirds of Parliament or the request of the Prime Minister and the approval of the President of the Republic, which confirms that the procedures for setting the date of early elections are unconstitutional and not based on the aforementioned article. “.
He continued, “The elections are still subject to regional interference,” noting that “some forces are communicating with regional countries, which indicates that the elections are not an internal Iraqi affair, but rather international and regional extensions in the Iraqi issue.”
Al-Masoudi considered, “The political process is still traditional, and it is still the same discourse, with the same quotas and parties, in addition to transgressing and violating Article 76 of the Iraqi constitution, which stipulates that the Prime Minister form the government, but what happens after each election is the selection of parties for the government cabinet and presenting it to the Prime Minister. Ministers”.
The representative of Saeroon linked the elections to the Security and Partnership Conference that will be held in Iraq with the participation of neighboring countries and other major and regional countries,” noting that “the features of the next political stage will be clear after this conference for all political forces.”
Al-Masoudi pointed out that “the elections will be held under UN supervision, and after extending the Security Council’s stay in Iraq for a period of one year, and it will become clear to all the features of the elections and their course in terms of the number of participants and the percentage of representation, and all these headlines will chart the future of the political process,” noting at the same time that “the elections, balance and acceptability.” Regional and international are part of the political process and the ingredients for its success.
The parliamentary elections scheduled for the tenth of October face political obstacles and objections that call for postponing them, secretly or publicly, due to the lack of the appropriate political, security and logistical grounds.
Iraqi political forces are afraid of running for elections due to the lack of equal opportunities for electoral competition and the control of powerful political forces and parties over the state’s resources, capabilities, and addresses for electoral promotion and the exclusion of other opponents.
