The US Department of Defense announced that it will send 3,000 additional soldiers on a temporary mission to Afghanistan to help secure the withdrawal of members of the US diplomatic mission from the US embassy in Kabul.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the first batch of troops will arrive within 24 to 48 hours, noting that the US military will transfer embassy staff to Kabul Airport by air.
The spokesman added that the United States will transfer 1,000 individuals to Qatar to be there to review immigrant visa applications for Afghans wishing to leave their country for fear of reprisals from the Taliban for their assistance to Washington during the American presence in Afghanistan. Shafaq News / The White House announced that the US government has sent more than 500,000 doses of Corona vaccines to Iraq, and they will arrive in Baghdad the day after tomorrow, Saturday.

And a US official at the White House said, “Washington intends to provide Iraq with 503,100 doses of the (Pfizer-Biontech) vaccine within the framework of the global (Kovax) program for sharing vaccines.”

Last week, the United States allocated more than 110 million doses of Corona vaccines to be donated within the framework of the aforementioned international project.

In addition to the $2 billion it donated to the “Cofax” program, the US government said it will purchase 500 million doses of the “Pfizer-Biontech” vaccine for distribution to African Union countries and 92 middle- and low-income countries.

Shafaq News/ A security source reported that, on Thursday evening, an explosive device exploded on a convoy of the International Coalition south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, “An explosive device, planted by unknown persons, exploded while a column of trucks carrying logistical support for the International Coalition was passing on the international highway near Alwa Al-Mukhdar in the Yusufiya area, south of Baghdad.”

The source added that the explosion caused material damage but no casualties.

This is the second attack of its kind within a few hours, after a similar attack took place on the highway between Babil and Diwaniyah provinces, without causing damage or casualties.

These attacks have been repeated in Iraq for many months. Washington, which leads the international coalition, accuses Iraqi factions close to Tehran of being behind them.

He added, “The coordination centers that were formed between the two parties, numbering 6, include army and Peshmerga officers, two of them are major, the first in Baghdad, the second in Erbil, and four in the cities of Diyala – Khanaqin, Kirkuk, Makhmour and Nineveh – Al-Kasik,” explaining that “the delegation of the Supreme Committee from the federal government headed by Lieutenant-General Abdul Amir. Al-Shammari and a group of senior officers, as for the delegation of the Peshmerga Supreme Committee, headed by Lieutenant-General Jamal Eminki, Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, and my membership and a number of officers in the ministry.

Ambassador Tueller stressed the “importance of the Strategic Framework Agreement signed between the two countries in 2008 as a basis for strong bilateral relations based on broad common interests, as well as his affirmation of the strong commitment of the United States of America to democracy and the rule of law in Iraq.”  

The ambassador pledged to “provide the United States’ support for Iraq to hold transparent and fair elections as scheduled on October 10, by providing the necessary funding and technical assistance to the United Nations mission UNAMI and the Independent High Electoral Commission.”  

The statement pointed out that “the United States hopes for wide participation in early, free and fair elections that reflect the will of the Iraqi people.”

Iraq concludes a new agreement with Jordan and Egypt

Shafaq News/ Today, Thursday, an agreement was signed to enhance inter-tripartite cooperation, especially in the humanitarian field, between the Jordanian, Iraqi and Egyptian Red Crescent societies, based on the outcomes of the tripartite summits between the political leaders of the three countries, during the past two years, which culminated in the Baghdad Summit last June.

In a news release published today, the official Jordanian news agency, Petra, stated that under the agreement, which was initiated by the regional delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, it was agreed to combine humanitarian efforts to draw a model for cooperation and integration in the fields of humanitarian and development work and community service.

According to the agency, the agreement aims to enhance cooperation between the three National Societies in the areas of common challenges and to take advantage of available opportunities to highlight their role as a major contributor in humanitarian fields related to the priorities referred to in the Tripartite Summit Declaration.

The National Societies agreed to set priorities for cooperation in the areas of health emergencies, especially with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic, and its social and economic impacts, and to form a technical working group that would formulate a map for joint training of National Societies staff and volunteers, mobilize the necessary resources for its implementation, and formulate a unified program for National Societies to enhance their capabilities with the support of From the International Federation’s Capacity Building Fund and other institutional development support funds, and preparing a practical program for cooperation in the areas of common challenges, especially climate change, food security and livelihoods, and drawing a map for joint exchange, according to the agency.

The news indicated that it was agreed to establish a joint fund to be contributed equally by the National Societies, and the fund may receive additional unconditional aid.

The agreement was signed by the General President of the Jordanian Red Crescent, Muhammad Al-Hadid, the President of the Iraqi Red Crescent Yassin Abbas, the Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent, Rami Al-Nazer, and the Regional Director of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Hussam Sharkawy.
