Baghdad / Obelisk: Journalist David Ignatius said in his article in the American Washington Post, that Biden will maintain a small American force that can train the Iraqi army, provide it with intelligence and protect it from its powerful neighbors, with the support of most of the Iraqi political blocs.
He also believes that the solution reached by Biden in Iraq is inexpensive and sustainable, and through it, it can maintain – for some time – the military presence of the United States in an unstable strategic region.
The writer believes that Biden found in the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, a smart partner, as he visited Washington last week and reached a series of agreements that would link Iraq to stronger relations with its Arab neighbors, with Europe and the United States, without causing a rupture with Iran.
Ignatius explained that Al-Kazemi’s visit centered on what he called a “strategic partnership” with Washington, which requires the United States to withdraw its remaining combat forces from Iraq while retaining a large force that can assist in training, intelligence sharing, and other support activities.
