Electricity reveals the reasons for the collapse of the energy system in the country

Baghdad / Obelisk: The Ministry of Electricity revealed, on Friday, July 2, 2021, the reason for the collapse of the country’s energy system, while confirming that the generation stations have resumed work.

The ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Musa al-Abadi, said in an interview with local media that the firefighting occurred because the main generating stations in the provinces were out of service in Baghdad, Basra, Babil, Najaf, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Karbala, Diwaniyah, Muthanna and Diyala.

Al-Abadi added, that this caused a firefighting in the mentioned governorates and the rest of the associated governorates, indicating that maintenance teams have been trying since the late hours of the night to restore the carrier lines to work.

The spokesman confirmed that the electric power has begun to gradually return in several areas inside Baghdad, after a general shutdown that lasted more than 7 hours, explaining that “the electric current has returned in the areas of Zayouna, Cairo, Ghazaliya, Al-Qurayat, Al-Shaab, Al-Mansour, Al-Kadhimiya and Al-Dora.

Al-Abadi indicated that electricity will gradually return to other regions, with production increasing in the coming hours, reaching the level before the extinguishing, with a capacity of more than 19,000 megawatts, noting that “the generation plants in Iraq have begun to return to the total production from the national grid. It has so far recovered 400 megawatts.

And the ministry’s spokesman indicated that work is continuing at an increasing pace to restore the 400 kilovolt Musayyib line – south of Baghdad, after it was exposed to a technical defect, explaining that the line is “one of the main feeders of the capital.”

Al-Abadi also pointed out that energy transmission towers were exposed to new terrorist operations, which also contributed to the crisis, as the towers are connected to power plants, which means wasting energy directed to the governorates.

Al-Abadi concluded by saying that the ministry is aware of its responsibility towards the Iraqi people and is working with all its capabilities to provide processing hours that cover the needs of Baghdad and the provinces.
