A large number of members of the Popular Mobilization Forces and their supporters, as well as political, military and security figures, participated, on Tuesday, in a symbolic funeral for the victims of the American raid, which was launched at dawn on Monday, on the border strip between Syria and Iraq.
The mourners marched to the sound of chants of “Death to America” and “Revenge for the martyrs” in Freedom Square in the Jadriya area of the capital, Baghdad, near the gate of the fortified Green Zone, which includes the embassies of the United States and Britain.
Strict security measures were imposed during the funeral, including the closure of the fortified area, which witnessed frequent incursions during the recent period by armed factions loyal to Iran, including the Popular Mobilization Forces.
The funeral was attended by senior leaders of the crowd, including Faleh al-Fayyad, head of the crowd, Hadi al-Amiri, leader of the Badr Organization, in addition to National Security Adviser Qassem al-Araji.
Mourners raised banners saying, “Targeting the crowd must speed up the evacuation of American forces from the country.”
