Shafaq News / An official in the Peshmerga forces revealed, on Tuesday, that a large security meeting will be held in the city of Khanaqin during the next 48 hours to form joint operations rooms with the Iraqi army based on agreements between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

The director of the media of the second axis of the Peshmerga (Qarah Tabah – Hamrin), Haider Ahmed, told Shafak News, “A meeting will soon be held during the next two days in Khanaqin between security leaders from the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga to put the final touches to the formation of a joint operations room and joint security points in the vacant and loose areas of security. Between the federal forces and the Peshmerga in the outskirts of Khanaqin and Jalula and the disputed areas in Diyala. “

Ahmed confirmed that “the operating rooms will be formed in all the disputed areas in Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salah al-Din, based on an agreement concluded between the security authorities in Baghdad and Erbil and under the guidance and supervision of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.”

And Ahmed stated that “the tasks of the operation room include raids and operations against ISIS hideouts and outposts in the security vacant areas between the army and the Peshmerga, and joint stationing points on both sides to end the threat of ISIS and its pockets at the outskirts of Khanaqin, Jalawla and Qarah Tappah, as well as in other governorates that suffer from security vacuums left by the Peshmerga during their withdrawal in 2017.” “.

“The international coalition forces will have a role in supporting and backing the joint operations rooms in the outskirts of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salah al-Din, through technical and air support,” he added.

The withdrawal of Peshmerga forces from the disputed or mixed areas of population in 2017 caused loose security vacuums that turned into loose security partitions on the outskirts of Diyala, Kirkuk, Nineveh and Salah al-Din.

Despite the security agreements between Baghdad and Erbil and the international coalition to form joint operations rooms in those areas, the agreement did not enter into force on the ground due to political and national differences.
