Shafaq News / The President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani discussed with a British military official, on Tuesday, strengthening the defense system in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
This came during Barzani’s meeting with Marshal Sami Sampson, the British chief defense adviser to the Middle East and the British ambassador to Iraq and the accompanying delegation in Erbil, according to a statement issued by the presidency of the region.
The statement stated that “the meeting discussed the latest developments in the war against ISIS, fears of the organization’s growing influence again, the movements of militants, how to confront their threats, and the role of the international coalition against ISIS in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”
He added that Barzani also discussed with the British delegation “the support and assistance of Britain and the international coalition to strengthen the Iraqi defense system, including the Kurdistan Region, and to develop joint British military cooperation and the international alliance with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.”
Barzani expressed his thanks for the role of Britain and the coalition in supporting and assisting Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to defeat ISIS, stressing the need for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to continue the duty, support and assistance of the international coalition to eliminate ISIS permanently.
The President of the Kurdistan Region also thanked the British military support to train the Peshmerga and contribute to reforms in the Ministry of Peshmerga.
In turn, the guest delegation praised the role and sacrifices of the Peshmerga in the war against ISIS, as well as the importance of a good mechanism for cooperation and coordination between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga, with the support of the International Coalition, especially in the areas of security vacuums.
