Baghdad – Mawazine News
, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on an unannounced visit, one day after US President Joe Biden announced the withdrawal of his forces from Afghanistan.
CNN reported that Blinkin met Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, as well as US military and embassy personnel.
Biden announced on Wednesday that the remaining 2,500 American soldiers in Afghanistan will return home by the twentieth anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001 that led to the US invasion.
He stressed that the withdrawal from Afghanistan will be carried out in a safe manner and in full cooperation with the allies, noting that the reasons for the stay of US forces in Afghanistan have become increasingly unclear.
