The US ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, confirmed today, Thursday, that there is no intention to close the US embassy in Baghdad.

Tueller said in a televised interview (Baghdad Today) that ” the escaped groups attacking the Green Zone are targeting Iraqi sovereignty,” noting that “the Iraqi government has taken good steps in order to prevent the recurrence of these attacks.”

He stressed that “there is no intention to close the American embassy in Baghdad,” noting that “the current US administration focuses on diplomatic work to reach good results.”

He pointed out that “the relationship of the United States with Iraq is based on the interest of the two countries only.”

Shafaq News / The Al-Fateh Alliance, led by Hadi Al-Amiri, announced, on Thursday, its position on the round of strategic dialogue between Iraq and the United States of America.

The coalition said in a statement received by Shafaq News, “We urge the Iraqi interlocutor to transform the mission of the international coalition forces from a combat mission to an advisory training mission, and we consider it a positive step in achieving full national sovereignty and the return of stability to all parts of the country.”

He added, “This requires expediting the formation of the specialized technical committee and setting clear and short-term timetables for the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Iraq as soon as possible.”

Al-Amiri’s coalition also called for “restoring control over the Iraqi air bases, especially Harir (Erbil) and Ain Al-Assad (Anbar), by the Iraqi security forces, and fully extending control over the Iraqi airspace.” 

This position comes one day after Washington and Baghdad announced, in a joint statement, their agreement to transform the role of US forces and the international coalition to fight ISIS in Iraq into a “training advisory”.

The two sides also agreed, during the third round of the strategic dialogue between the two countries, to withdraw “combat forces”, according to a timetable agreed upon by the two parties in “future technical talks.”

About 3 thousand soldiers from the international coalition forces, including 2,500 American soldiers, are deployed in Iraq to fight the terrorist organization “ISIS”, and the sites occupied by foreign forces are subject to repeated missile attacks.

Washington, the coalition leader, accuses armed Iraqi factions linked to Iran of being behind the attacks.

Today, Thursday, an informed source revealed that a high-level Kurdish delegation will visit Baghdad next Saturday.

The source explained in an interview with (Baghdad Today) that “a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan region with membership of the Patriotic Union and Kurdistan Democratic Party and other political forces will visit Baghdad on Saturday and meet the beginning of the political forces, to be followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi on Sunday.”

The closing statement of the meeting that brought together the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, with the Kurdish political parties, considered the approval of the Iraqi Federal Budget Law a “positive step” in the context of the progress of relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi federal government.

The meeting expressed, according to the text of the statement, “the hope that the budget law will be applied and have positive repercussions on the lives and livelihood of citizens and the economic situation of Iraq and the Kurdistan region, and pave the way for solving problems between the two sides on the basis of the constitution and within the framework of the federal system.”

Barzani thanked the political forces and parties for responding to his call and holding this meeting, and stressed that the only way to overcome problems and crises and protect rights, gains, and the constitutional status and the federation of the Ku = Kurdistan region is cohesion and unity of ranks, and that the Kurdistan Region Presidency will continue to work on this and it will remain the umbrella for all.

Shafaq News / The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, approved, on Thursday, the federal fiscal budget law for the current year.

Saleh said that the approval comes to secure the necessary needs of our people, and to finance the salaries of employees and retirees and the necessary government expenditures in a way that achieves social justice for all regions of Iraq and all segments of society.

President Saleh stressed the need to adopt financial and economic reform and support the various economic sectors in a way that contributes to supporting the goals of development and progress, indicating that the approval of the budget is an important step towards meeting the citizens’ entitlements, and strengthening the role of the departments concerned with implementing the budget’s provisions and with concerted efforts by everyone to achieve what is hoped for in meeting the needs of Citizens and rebuilding the country, and taking maximum measures to support low-income classes, provide job opportunities for our youth, and continue the path of reform and combating corruption.

The approval of the President of the Republic came after the law reached the Presidency of the Republic from the House of Representatives after it was voted on in the House.

On Wednesday (March 31, 2021), the Iraqi parliament voted on the federal budget law for the fiscal year 2021, with a deficit of more than 28 trillion dinars, and a tug of war that lasted for months.

The general budget revenues amounted to more than 101 trillion Iraqi dinars, while expenditures were estimated at 129 trillion dinars.
