, US State Department spokesman Ned Price confirmed, today, Monday, that his country is ready to discuss directly with Iran about the nuclear deal, hours before the start of talks in Vienna on the agreement to discuss what the United States and Iran must do to resume compliance with the agreement. “We are ready to talk directly with the Iranians about the nuclear deal and talk with the Europeans, so we are going to Vienna,” Price said in a press briefing today, noting that “Iran’s special envoy Rob Mali will lead the American delegation in the Vienna talks on the nuclear agreement.”
The US State Department spokesman affirmed that “the talks about the nuclear deal depend on Iran’s seriousness in returning to it,” explaining that “we do not want to prolong the talks, but we will not shorten the way.”
He noted that “the 5 + 1 group aims for Iran not to acquire a nuclear weapon, which is also our goal,” stressing that “on our part, there will be no concession to ease the sanctions at the present time only after Iran’s commitment to stop its escalatory steps.”
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sent a message to the European countries that are members of the nuclear deal on Sunday before the Vienna meeting scheduled for next Tuesday.
In a statement today, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said: “The Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, held a telephone conversation with his British counterpart Dominic Raab, during which the two sides discussed the latest developments related to the nuclear agreement, especially the holding of the Joint Committee meeting in Vienna, next Tuesday.”
The statement added that Zarif called during the call “the European countries that are members of the nuclear agreement to respect their obligations in the agreement and to participate constructively in the upcoming Vienna meeting.”
Zarif assured his British counterpart: “We will not return to our commitments in the nuclear agreement unless the US sanctions are fully and permanently lifted.” Ended 29 / A 87
