They also emphasized “the role of the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council in a way that serves the interests of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples and the importance of expanding and strengthening the horizons of bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially political, security, trade, investment and tourism, in order to complement the efforts made and the positive results achieved from the mutual visits of officials between the two countries during the past period.” .

Saudi Arabia appreciated the efforts of the Iraqi government to achieve security, stability and development in the Republic of Iraq, while the Republic of Iraq appreciated the initiatives provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Iraq in the field of confronting the Corona pandemic (Covid-19).

With regard to regional issues, the two sides agreed to “intensify cooperation, coordination, and exchange of views on issues and issues of concern to the two countries on the regional and international arenas, in a way that contributes to supporting and strengthening security and stability in the region, and the need to keep them away from tensions and their causes and the joint endeavor to establish security and stability pillars, and in this context.” Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi affirmed his support for the Saudi initiative to end the crisis in Yemen.

Central Bank: The new exchange rate has made significant gains

According to the statement, the minister added, “Establishing appropriate mechanisms for financing and engaging the private sector, approving the completion of strategic projects with a multiplier effect, and submitting a report on external and internal debt and scheduling it by the Public Debt Department.”

SULAIMANI — With a potential vote coming on Saturday, Change Movement (Gorran) lawmaker in the Council of Representatives Kawa Mohammed on Thursday (March 25) told Voice of America (VOA) that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is more in need of a budget agreement than the federal government, given the perilous state of its finances.

“I think the [KRG] should get behind the law, but not like the 2019 budget law that passed and then never abided by,” Mohammed said of the ongoing negotiations about the 2021 Federal Budget Law.

Contained within the 2019 Federal Budget Law was a deal where the KRG would send oil in return for cash transfers to Erbil. The Kurdistan Region did not hold up its end of the bargain and never sent any oil, which caused much frustration in Baghdad.

“It is important to abide by the law and for the federal government to send the Region’s budget share so that it can pay people on time. This is the best opportunity to solve the salary problem,” he added.

Last year, the KRG struggled to make payroll, missing five monthly public sector salary disbursements entirely during 2020 and cutting four others by nearly a quarter after Baghdad abruptly stopped sending funds to Erbil to enable it to pay public servants in retaliation for its abrogation for the budget agreement.

Mohammed said that that both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are acting in their own self-interest in how they are conducting negotiations, without taking into consideration the situation of public servants.

He continued that ensuring the security, stability and sovereignty of Iraq is a basic foundation and a common interest for the security and stability of the entire region and the interests of its people.

Shafaq News / The Parliamentary Regions and Governorates Committee announced, on Thursday, that the Kurdistan Region will be included in the petrodollar fund within the general budget law for 2021.

The federal budget, in its version prepared for voting in Parliament, included an increase in the percentage of petrodollars that reached 5 dollars, as well as doubling the allocations for this sector from 500 billion to one trillion dinars, in order to be invested in the advancement of oil-producing provinces.

The head of the committee, Sherwan Al-Dubirdani, told Shafaq News, “The petro-dollar fund was allocated to the oil-producing provinces and the region, but he did not specify the amount, which may be 3-5 dollars per barrel of oil.”

SULAIMANI —Director of the Department of Financial Operations and Debt Management of Iraq’s Central Bank Mahmud Dagher said on Wednesday (March 24) that the price of US dollar against Iraqi dinar will be fixed at the current price for the next four years.

During an appearance in NRT’s Tawtwe interview program, Dagher said that the Council of Representatives does not have the authority to make changes in the price of US dollar.

$100 was at 144,750 Iraqi dinars as of Wednesday evening.

The devaluation of dinar, which was included in the federal government’s draft 2021 budget, was designed to preserve Iraq’s dollar reserves and allow the government to spend more Iraqi dinars.

The move however made imports and goods originally priced in other currencies, like hydrocarbons, more expensive.

On Sunday, Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq Mustafa Ghalib said that the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar this winter enhanced the country’s financial sustainability because the move increased country’s foreign currency reserves and strengthened its public finances.
