(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, confirmed, on Saturday, during his meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Muhammad Javad Zarif, in the Iranian capital, Tehran, that Baghdad will not allow the disruption of the excellent relations with Iran.
Tehran announced that the Foreign Ministers of Iraq, Fouad Hussein and Iran, Muhammad Jawad Zarif, confirmed during a meeting held between them today that their countries would confront any attempts aimed at undermining their bilateral relations.
In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that Zarif condemned, during the meeting held in Tehran, the recent US air strikes that targeted Iraqi factions in the Syrian Albu Kamal region at the borders of Iraq, stressing that they constitute a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
Zarif also indicated, according to the statement, that “some recent attacks and incidents inside Iraq may be aimed at undermining Iraq’s relations with Iran and the security and stability of this country.”
In turn, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stressed, according to the statement, that Baghdad “will not allow the events that take place on its territory to be exploited with the aim of sabotaging the distinguished relations between the two countries.”
Hussein expressed Baghdad’s readiness to facilitate Iran’s access to its frozen assets in Iraq under the US sanctions, stressing that progress has been made in the negotiations between the two countries in this regard.
