Shafaq News / A source close to the Iraqi Cabinet said, on Tuesday, that the government had approved a new date for “early” parliamentary elections.
The source informed Shafaq News Agency; That the Iraqi Council of Ministers decided in its session held today, Tuesday, the date of next October 10, a new date for the parliamentary elections, instead of the previous date.
Source added; That the Council of Ministers took into account the proposal of the Electoral Commission, which proposed to postpone the date of holding the elections from next June to 16 October.
On Monday (January 18, 2021), President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi discussed three files, on top of which are the early elections scheduled for next June.
On Monday (January 18, 2021), the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, held his position on the proposal to postpone the early elections that were scheduled to take place early next June.
Al-Sadr said in a tweet, which was seen by Shafaq News Agency, “We hope that the election commission’s proposal will be a purely professional proposal to complete all election mechanisms and conduct them with acceptable procedures.”
