Negotiations continue between Baghdad and Erbil in preparation for framing a new agreement, paving the way for the next year’s budget, by drawing up paragraphs that regulate the relationship between the center and the region regarding oil and other financial revenues in Kurdistan.

The deputy of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Diyar Barwari, said, according to the official newspaper, that “negotiations are continuing between the political forces in the center and the region to reach a new agreement that is a basic prelude to the provisions of the 2021 budget that regulate the relationship between Baghdad and Erbil.”

He added, “The agreement between the two governments of the regional center will require Erbil to commit to paying the sums of sold oil, as well as revenues from the ports to Baghdad, which is one of the principles and paragraphs of the 2020 budget.”

Berwari pointed out that “delaying the budget by the government will delay its approval in Parliament before the beginning of next year in light of the presence of many problems with the federal government in the Ministries of Finance and Planning, which seek to complete the draft law,” calling on the government to “adhere to the dates and times.”
