Mr. Ammar al-Hakim assures Blashardt of the importance of holding elections far from the power of weapons and political money

(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The head of the Iraqi coalition, Mr. Ammar Al-Hakim, stressed the importance of holding free and fair elections capable of restoring confidence between the public and the ballot box.

In a statement received by Al Furat News, Mr. Al-Hakim said, “We discussed during our meeting with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert, the latest developments in the political situation in Iraq and the international role in helping him in files of common interest.”

He added, “We renewed our support for holding early elections, and we called on the political blocs to resolve the issue of the electoral districts and take into account the challenges of the stage.”

He continued, “We stressed the establishment of free and fair elections capable of restoring confidence between the public and the ballot box, and we stressed that this can only be achieved by holding elections far from the power of weapons, political money and drop campaigns.”

Mr. Al-Hakim stressed “following up on the recommendations of the Twelfth Conference on Combating Violence against Women, following up the file of kidnapped women and providing redress for survivors, and we called on the international organization to play a greater role in this file.”
