Gold touches record levels and the dollar is on the rise

Time: 08/06/2020 12:32:15

{International: Al Furat News} Gold prices rose towards record highs on Thursday, as weak US data rocked jobs in dollars and raised concerns about the recovery of the global economy affected by the pandemic.

And gold is in the spot prices, a slight difference from the highest levels ever, which touched him in the previous session, and rose 0.6 percent to 2051.44 dollars an ounce by 0645 GMT. US gold futures rose 0.8 percent to $ 2064.60.

“There are real concerns about whether the global economic recovery will continue as casualties continue to rise in the United States,” said Harshal Barrot, consultant researcher for South Asia at Metals Focus.

“Those fears have increased now, which raises doubts that whatever recovery we have seen in the past two months will not continue, which led to the purchase of safe havens in general, and inflation expectations are starting to rebound again.”

US central bank policymakers warn that the pandemic will continue to damage the US economy, with the country’s cases surpassing 4.7 million.

The dollar rallied, hit by reduced risk appetite in early trade in London on Thursday as markets awaited US jobs data and news of financial aid negotiations in Washington.

The risk appetite increased on Wednesday after data from the Institute of Supply Management in the United States revealed that new orders in the services sector jumped to a record high, but also showed a decline in employment, indicating that the labor market recovery is faltering.

The dollar index fell against a basket of currencies, where it reached its lowest level in two years at 92.495 at 0608 GMT, then rose by 0700 GMT to trade 0.1 percent down on Thursday at 92.713.

The euro hit a two-year high against the dollar at $ 1.1916, with the end of Asian trading nearing and then falling to $ 1.1876. The euro was supported by PMI data on Wednesday that revealed that the euro zone economy is expanding.

Iraq is back on the “right track” with 8 indicators

Time: 6/20/2020 15:40:06

{International: Al Furat News} A report by the “Wall Street Journal” said that Iraq is finally back on the right track, although it is going through an unenviable situation at the present time as a result of the Corona pandemic and the conflict of regional and international wills within its territories.

The report monitored several indicators cited by the American Brookings Institution confirming progress in many ways in the country from 2003 to today.

First: The country’s population has increased from about 25 million in the last years of Saddam Hussein’s rule to 40 million today.

According to the newspaper, this in itself is neither good nor bad, but it does mean that Iraq is large enough to be an important player in Middle East politics.

Second: The per capita gross domestic product has risen to nearly six thousand dollars compared to less than four thousand two decades ago.

The newspaper report indicates that there is still a lot of poverty in Iraq, corruption is rampant, and the prospects for work for Iraqi youth are modest, but nevertheless, there have been positive economic developments.

Third: Oil production increased from about 2.5 million barrels per day in the last years of Saddam’s rule to about 4.5 million barrels now, and export revenues from oil have tripled on average since 2002.

Fourth: The annual rate of internal displacement has fallen by more than half since the defeat of ISIS ISIS.

Fifth: Many indicators of quality of life have improved significantly over the past two decades. Cell phones, which were restricted to the Ba’athist elite, are now everywhere, and the total number of users is roughly equal to the population.

The total internet users are now around 10 million.

Sixth: Life expectancy increased from 67 years in 2002 to about 73 years today.

Seventh: The number of modern sanitation facilities that have reached more than 40 percent of the population has increased, compared to 32 percent before 2003.

More than half of the population has access to safe drinking water as well, although this issue still requires greater efforts.

Eighth: The national literacy rate increased from 74 percent at the turn of the century to 85 percent today.

The Wall Street Journal report concludes, however, that there is still a long way to go for Iraq to achieve the desired political and economic stability, in light of the popular protests that erupted last year, high indicators of corruption and a decline in freedom of the press.

The protests began on the first of last October and lasted for several months, during which hundreds of thousands of Iraqis demanded jobs and services and the departure of the ruling elite, which they said were corrupt.

The protests caused the resignation of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, who was replaced in May by Mustafa al-Kazemi, the former head of the intelligence service.

Iraq, which relies on oil exports to get most of its revenues, suffers from corruption and mismanagement for many years, and ranked No. 161 out of 168 countries in Transparency International’s annual report on corruption for 2015.

Iraq currently ranks 156 out of 180 countries in the rankings for freedom The press, published by Reporters Without Borders.

A parliamentary source reveals the date for the resumption of regular parliament sessions

Time: 08/20/2020 13:01:47

(Baghdad: Al Furat News) A parliamentary source revealed the date of the resumption of Parliament’s sessions, which were suspended due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, and injuries were recorded among members and employees of the Council.

The source said to {Euphrates News}, that “the meetings of the House of Representatives will be resumed on the third of the month of September next regularly, and there may be before that one or two emergency sessions regarding the completion of the election law and resolving the dispute over the electoral districts.”

It is noteworthy that the work of Parliament has stopped months ago, except with the exception of limited sessions, including the vote on the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi on May 7, due to the registration of dozens of Coronavirus infections among MPs and employees.

It is noteworthy that the House of Representatives recorded the first death among its members in the pandemic of the head of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, Ghaida Kampash, on July 10, affected by her infection with the virus.

Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Hussein Al-Oqabi, said the day before yesterday, Tuesday, “Parliament stopped holding its sessions due to the spread of Corona virus in the country and the high level of severity, as well as infection of more than 50 deputies with the virus (out of a total of 329), which necessitated the cessation of the resumption of the sessions, but now Sessions have become an imperative to start completing the election law. ”

He stressed, “The current political circumstances and recent developments require the convening of the council, even if at the level of committees, to decide on immediate issues.”

Holding Parliament sessions at least in the next few weeks has become an urgent necessity to resolve the dispute over electoral districts in the election law, especially after Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi decided the date for early elections and held them on June 6, 2021, to throw the ball in the square of the Parliament.

Shafaq News / The “Global Finance” magazine issued a classification of countries in the world in terms of per capita gross domestic product, which showed that Iraq was ranked 83 among the list of 192 countries.

According to the statistics published by the magazine for the year 2020 and viewed by Shafaq News, Qatar ranked first in the world in terms of per capita gross domestic product with 132,886 dollars, followed by Macau with 114,363 thousand dollars, then Luxembourg with 108,951 thousand dollars, and Singapore with 103,181 thousand Dollars, and Ireland, which ranked fifth, at 83,399 thousand dollars.

The magazine indicated that the Iraqi per capita gross domestic product amounted to $ 18,025, which is thus ranked 83rd among the countries in the world and sixth in the Arab world after Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Oman.

Global Finance says that if we consider GDP, we will conclude that the richest countries have the largest GDP, such as the United States, China, Japan, and Germany.

This does not give a clear picture of the state if its members are rich, but when distributing wealth to the population, specifically dividing the gross domestic product of a country by its population, we know the per capita share and this issue becomes clear.
