, the head of the People’s Party, Deputy Fayek Sheikh Ali, revealed today, Saturday, 01 August 2020, his intention to form a major political alliance, to run in the early elections that were announced by the government.
Sheikh Ali wrote in a tweet to him: “Heroic revolutionaries: Whoever tells you that I will abandon you, tell him: You are a tucked liar.”
“For months, I called on you to establish your own political entity, and I wrote to you how you formed it in a series of tweets … and I will continue to invite you.”
“When you find yourselves powerless, I will, for my part, start forming a new grand coalition, in which you will be its leaders.”
Ahmed Mulla Talal, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister, said that the government had kept its promise and set the date for early elections.
“In response to the basic demand of people in holding early elections, in fulfillment of the blood of the martyrs of Iraq, and in commitment to the government curriculum, the government fulfilled the promise and set the date for early elections,” Mulla Talal said in a tweet.
“And it will work with great care and responsibility to create an appropriate electoral climate for free and fair elections, which gives everyone equal opportunities in honest competition.”
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, had set the date of early elections next Friday, July 31, 2020, for Iraq, noting that June 6 of next year is the date for its holding.
Al-Kazimi said in a televised speech to the Iraqi people, saying: “We are preparing for fair and fair elections that produce a parliament that represents the people’s will and aspirations, and that is why we have set June 6 next year as the date for early elections.”
He added: “We pledge to protect all competing forces in the elections,” pointing out that “the will of the Iraqi people will change the face of Iraq and remove from it the effects of years of wars and conflicts.”
