Shafaq News / The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed on Thursday the necessity of the continued support of the United States of America to the region.

A statement on the presidency reported to Shafaq News, that Barzani received Robert Waller, the new US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region.

The statement added that in a meeting attended by the former American Consul General and a delegation accompanying them, and besides offering congratulations to the new consul, President Negervan Barzani hoped for success in his duties, expressing his support for him.

For his part, the consul affirmed America’s commitment to the stability of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the role of the Kurdistan Region and the parties and components in governing Iraq, stressing his country’s support for efforts to solve problems and overcome crises in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

For his part, the former consul expressed his gratitude and appreciation, stressing that he will continue from his new position to work on enhancing joint work and partnership with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Barzani stressed the position of the Kurdistan Region to work with the Iraqi federal government in order to achieve stability and solve problems on the basis of the constitution, according to the statement.

The statement continued that the two sides stressed the strengthening of relations between the Kurdistan Region and America, joint cooperation and work with the international coalition against ISIS, and the continued American support for the Kurdistan Region, the region’s role in the stability of Iraq, and the conditions at home and the role of the whole region’s presidency, and the protection of coexistence and tolerance between the components.
