{Baghdad: Al Furat News} At 11:00 am Thursday, President of the Republic assigns Barham Salih the candidate of the Shi’ite forces, the head of the National Intelligence Service, Mustafa al-Kazemi, to form the government after he formally presents the Prime Minister-designate, Adnan al-Zorfi, with an apology for assignment.
A group of politicians will attend Al-Kazemi’s assignment ceremony.
Mustafa Al-Kazemi was born in Baghdad in 1967, and he took over the position of the head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in June 2016, after he won a prominent position as an experienced political mediator between the different Iraqi parties amid successive crises.
Al-Kazemi has more than 15 years of service in Iraq, with an emphasis on conflict resolution.
Al-Kazemi was responsible for reforming the apparatus to become more efficient and effective, and he supervised taking politics out of intelligence work, applying the latest methods of analysis, and expanding the organ of the apparatus to include fighting terrorism inside and outside the country.
Al-Kazemi was an active opponent against Saddam’s dictatorship and lived for years in exile, but he did not join any of the Iraqi political parties.
His role as executive director of the Iraqi Memory Foundation, an organization established for the purpose of documenting Saddam’s crimes, gave him the opportunity to specialize in archival strategies, and gained holistic experience in documenting testimonies and collecting films on victims of the former regime on the basis of responsibility in preserving the Iraqi event as a historical document, in addition to overseeing a work Multiple teams in several countries.
Al-Kazemi managed from Baghdad and London the Humanitarian Dialogue Foundation, an independent organization that seeks to bridge the gaps between societies and cultures and establish dialogue as an alternative to violence in resolving crises through cooperation that cuts geographical and social boundaries.
Mustafa Al-Kazemi worked as a columnist and managing editor of the Iraq division at Al-Monitor in Washington. His articles focused on devoting the spirit of social peace in Iraq, establishing the future and the country’s historical position, and exposing the failures and confusion that accompanied the experience of the political system and ways to address it. Also, during his career, he published many books, most notably (Iraq Question – Reconciliation between the Past and the Future).
Al-Kazemi founded {Weekly} magazine and was the Chairman and Editor-in-Chief for two years and was considered one of the best magazines in Iraq and printed in Baghdad, Beirut and Amman.
