Baghdad today _ Baghdad
Haneen Qaddo, a member of the Al-Fateh Alliance, confirmed on Monday 17-2-2020 the authenticity of information indicating the cancellation of the visit of the person in charge of forming the government, Muhammad Allawi, to the Kurdistan region, while a Kurdish delegation was likely to come to negotiate with the latter to form the government in Baghdad soon.
Qaddo said, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that “Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi canceled his visit to the Kurdistan region after the completion of the mechanisms of forming the cabinet, and he is awaiting the final touches to present it to the House of Representatives on the next Wednesday or Thursday.”
“The coming of a Kurdish delegation came during the next two days to negotiate with the Prime Minister-designate on forming the next government.”
Regarding the names that are being circulated as candidates for ministerial portfolios in the new government, Haneen Al-Qaddou said that it is “just an incorrect speculation, because things are not clear yet, and we have not seen the name of any candidate.”
A Kurdish source had revealed, on Sunday (February 09, 2020), the demands that the Kurdish forces would place on the Prime Minister-designate, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, when the latter visited the Kurdistan region or returned to their meeting in Baghdad.
The source said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that “Allawi will meet the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Democratic Party Masoud Barzani, and other figures from the two ruling parties in the region if he visits the region as planned.”
He added, “The Kurdish leaders will present their demands to the Prime Minister-designate, which is summarized in the most prominent point, which is not to cancel the agreement signed during the Abdul-Mahdi government, which includes handing over the region 250 thousand barrels of oil, in exchange for sending the region’s full share of the budget and salaries.”
He pointed out that “the region will raise the issue of merging the peshmerga salaries with the Ministry of Defense, and the implementation of this matter within the budget for the current year, as well as the security situation in the disputed areas, and the danger of ISIS and the possibility of cooperation between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army.”
And, “The Kurds will put multiple options for positions and ministries assigned to them, provided that Allawi chooses whom he deems appropriate, but they want a leadership figure who takes over the Ministry of Finance that allocates them to be leaders of the ranks in the Democratic Party, because of the benefits it has over the region as it happened in the time of Fouad Hussein, the current finance minister. ”
The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s representative in Baghdad, Faris Issa, had confirmed, on Saturday (February 08 2020), that the Prime Minister in charge of forming the new federal government, Mohammed Allawi, plans to visit the region soon with the aim of dialogue with the Kurds.
And the official website of the Kurdistan Democratic Party quoted Issa as saying that “he is scheduled to visit the Prime Minister-designate during the next two weeks, the Kurdistan region, and conducts dialogues with political parties there in order to obtain their support in forming the new Iraqi government.”
Earlier, the official of the Baghdad file at the headquarters of the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, Arafat Karam, Monday (February 17, 2020), revealed the content of a telephone conversation between Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi and party leader Masoud Barzani.
Karam said in a press statement to the Kurdish sites that followed him (Baghdad today), “Barzani told the Prime Minister-designate that he is: an honest person and respected for us, but the mechanism that you follow is unsuccessful, you are dealing with us now technically while the deal should be political.” .
