US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed, today, Saturday, the details of a call he had with the President of the
Republic, Barham Salih.
In a tweet on his Twitter account, Pompeo said, “The Iraqi President, Saleh, and I see them again talked
today about the important and lasting role of the international coalition in the fight against ISIS,” noting that
“our commitment to remove the escalation is a steadfast position.”
Pompeo announced on Monday (January 13th) that the United States intends to work with the
Iraqi leadership to determine the most appropriate place for the deployment of American forces in Iraq.
Pompeo said in a speech to him in California: “Concerning how the issue of the location of
our forces inside Iraq will be resolved in the end, we will work with the elected leaders in Iraq to choose
the most appropriate place.”
