+ –SULAIMANI — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke by phone early on Wednesday morning (January 8) with Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani following an Iranian missile attack targeting bases hosting US forces.
According to a readout supplied by State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus, the call from Pompeo was made in order to brief Barzani about the attacks.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired more than a dozen missiles at al-Asad airbase in Anbar province and at a base in Erbil.
There was no immediate indication of damage or casualties in the Kurdistan Region’s capital.
“The Secretary and Prime Minister Barzani agreed to “stay in close touch as the situation develops,” it added.
