An upcoming meeting reveals the insistence on resolving the prime minister candidate, before the legal deadline expires

Baghdad / Obelisk: The Presidency of the Republic of Iraq, on Thursday, December 12, 2019, confirmed that a candidate for prime minister will be released, before the legal deadline expires, after three days.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives approved the request to resign the Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi and his government in the first of this month, to turn into a caretaker government.

Salar Mahmoud, a spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, said, “Although the issue is complex and sensitive, the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, is determined to resolve the nomination of a candidate for prime minister according to constitutional procedures and terms.”

Mahmoud added, in a press statement read by the “obelisk”, that Saleh “will meet with the heads of the blocs, the presidency of the parliament and political parties, to resolve this issue within the specified legal deadline, and we are confident that the identification of the candidate of the Prime Minister of Iraq will be soon.”

According to Article 76 of the Iraqi constitution, the President of the Republic must, within 15 days from the date of ratification of the resignation of the Prime Minister, assign the largest parliamentary bloc candidate to form a government.

The information monitored by the “obelisk” indicates that the new candidate must have street support and acceptance by regional and international parties and the agreement between the political blocs on the most appropriate personality and that the personality be independent, and not be dual national.

Mostly Shiite political blocs are leading the efforts to form the largest bloc, to choose the next prime minister, within constitutional contexts, and proven paths since 2003, but they are faced with categorical rejection by the demonstrators, who are not already confident of any political solution issued by the current political class that is making unremitting efforts to settle Fast and satisfactory alternative to Abdul Mahdi.
