The President Salih met with World Bank President, David Malpass today on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York City.
His Excellency President Salih emphasized the importance of the World Bank’s support for economic projects that consider Iraq’s needs as priority and promote development efforts which could enable government to achieve its economic reform programs. He noted that, Iraq took great steps in this regards, thus made possible by tangible stability in Iraq.
Several of cooperation between Iraq and World Bank including development and investment areas were reviewed.

President Salih met with Steve Lutes, President of Middle East Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, alongside representatives of major US companies today in New York.
The meeting occurred on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly meeting.
His Excellency declared Iraq’s interest in working with American companies throughout the ongoing reconstruction process. Their participation in economic projects, which would enhance the levels of trade between the two countries as well as improve expertise, is also be welcome.
President Salih and Mr. Lutes encouraged American companies to consider investments in Iraq and partnerships with Iraqi companies.
Transport Minister Abdullah Laibi announced on Friday the arrival of one of the ships of the General Company for Maritime Transport (Al-Hadba) to the Canadian port of Vancouver in a period of time not witnessed by Iraqi vessels since 40 years. Its kind in the history of the company never seen before.

President of the Republic, Dr. Barham Saleh said that Iraq is going through a phase of change based on economic recovery, and to build bridges of cooperation with all countries in the region and the world.
In an interview on Friday with some of the most prominent scholars and experts on Iraq at the Council on Foreign Relations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the President said that economic integration in the region reduces the chances of terrorism returning and building economic relations is the solution. The best way to build political relations that serve our peoples, achieve national interests and consolidate regional and international stability and security.
He added that the Iraqis have achieved great victories against terrorism, and want to preserve them, stressing that the victory was real but incomplete, and requires international support to promote stability in the region.
He expressed the hope that Iraq will become a meeting point for neighboring countries and the world away from conflicts.

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed his hope to reach an agreement with Baghdad, calling on the Iraqi Council of Representatives and Iraqi political parties to visit Erbil for further talks, especially with regard to the Kurdistan oil file.
Barzani said in a statement that “relations with Baghdad are good, and negotiations continue in a positive atmosphere,” adding: “I think that Baghdad and Erbil want to resolve all outstanding problems and certainly all efforts are continuing to this end.”
On the negotiations for the preparation of the 2020 budget, the President of the Kurdistan region: “I hope to reach an agreement and we all look forward to an agreement,” noting that “the parties are making serious efforts to reach solutions.”
On the dialogue with the Iraqi political blocs, Nechirvan Barzani stressed that “dialogue is always required with the Iraqi political parties and all political forces to achieve mutual understanding.”
“Unfortunately, questions are often raised about the oil file of the Kurdistan Region. We have invited the Iraqi parliament and political parties to send delegations to Erbil for further talks on these issues and to reach a settlement that serves Kurdistan, Iraq and their people.”

Baghdad / .. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohammed Halbousi, on Thursday, Assistant US Treasury Secretary for Terrorist Financing Marshall Billingsley, in the presence of US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Toller.
A statement by the Office of the President of the House of Representatives received, “Eye of Iraq News,” that Halbousi “discussed during the meeting political, economic and security developments in Iraq, stressing the role of the House of Representatives in the adoption of legislation guaranteeing the development and stability in the country.”
The Speaker stressed the need for the United States and the international community to exert more efforts to combat terrorism and dry up its sources and financing, pointing to the need to reduce the escalation in the region and the encirclement of crises and call for dialogue and peace.
Al-Halbousi also called for “encouraging American companies to invest more in Iraq in all industrial and commercial fields.”
For his part, the US Assistant Secretary of Treasury affirmed his country’s keenness on the security and sovereignty of Iraq, and the protection of democracy in Iraq and the gains achieved after the victory in the war on terrorism, pointing to Washington’s readiness to help;
