Three days before the expiration of a prior waiver, the U.S. has decided to continue to refrain from punishing Iraq for essential gas and power imports.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday approved a waiver that enables Iraq to continue its vital gas and electricity imports from Iran without running afoul of American sanctions.

Two senior Iraqi officials confirmed the waiver was approved, just three days before the previous 90-day waiver was set to expire.
