(Baghdad: Al Furat News) A US diplomat confirmed that the Iraqi forces are not ready to maintain security, stressing that Washington will withdraw its troops from Iraq if Baghdad requested it.
“The US forces in Iraq are at the invitation of the Iraqi government,” US Charge d’Affaires Joe Hood told reporters in Baghdad Tuesday. “These forces, the international coalition and NATO will leave Iraq if the Iraqi government asks.”
“The Iraqi security forces are not ready to maintain security until now with the help of foreign forces,” he said. “We are not saying that but senior commanders.”
He explained that “the rate of presence of troops is 5,200 troops per week,” pointing out that “this number is changing weekly rather than a fixed number, and they are with the Iraqi forces.”
Houd denied the existence of US bases in Iraq, stressing that there are American trainers and advisers in Iraq. is over
