BAGHDAD (Reuters) – US authorities have informed the Iraqi authorities of US President Donald Trump’s desire to visit Iraq on Wednesday evening to congratulate the new Iraqi government and to visit US troops in the coalition forces supporting Iraq in a fight against Saddam and the Iraqi government welcomed the request.

The Prime Minister welcomed the US President “this visit and invited him to visit Baghdad and the US President invited the Prime Minister to visit Washington, and agreed to continue to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries,” according to the statement.
The statement said that “the visit of the US president and the first lady included congratulating the American military at the Iraqi base of Ain al-Assad in Anbar on the occasion of birthdays.”
